Back at 19: Golfers combine for honours

ON TARGET: Dave Boyce was all smiles after posting a 42-point round of the day on Thursday at the Mount Gambier Golf Club.

SATURDAY was a pairs event at the Attamurra golf course, with the best stableford score between players counting towards a combined score card.

With 117 players forming more than 50 teams, Chris Patterson and Peter Fox was the stand-out combination, posting 49 points to finish four clear at the head of the field.

A count-back was required to decide the placings, with second going to Ricky and Ron Walker, third to Seth McRae and Brad VonDuve, while in fourth were Russell Lewis and Peter Miller, with all pairs on 45 points.

Teams needed 43 points to grab a ball with winning teams including, Bryan Pink/Setio Shanahan, Thomas Madigan/Nick Moretti, Adrian Bruhn/Grant Lean, Keith Couzner/Stephen Gray, Ross

Bond/Michael Griffiths, Graham Kain/Chris Hill, Chris Gabriel and Peter Jones, Des Guerin/Ian Ritter, David Anderson/Robert McLellan, plus Peter Waters/Ian Ewart.

From an individual standpoint, Tom Jellesma and Chris Patterson shared round of the day with 38 points, with VonDuve the only other player to beat his handicap on 37 points.

Seven players managed a birdie-two, with winners including John Hopkins, Peter Raymond, Michael Rees, Shanahan, Bond, Fox and Guerin.

Guerin also claimed the pro shot on the 16th hole, with Barry Brook claiming shot of the day on the eighth.

Women’s stableford

A STABLEFORD round saw 15 women in the field, with a tightly contested finish, with Yvonne Shirley and Faye Mainwaring both posting 36 points.

Shirley was on the right side of the count-back and took home first place, with Millicent Golf Club’s Mary Wisner in third on 35 points.

Christine Galpin finished fourth on 33 points and collected the last ball.

The pro-shot on the 16th hole went to Mainwaring, with Di O’Donnell claiming shot of the day on the eighth.
Thursday stableford

DAVE Boyce had the round of the day on Thursday, posting a fine 42 points.

His score included a 38 off-the-stick front nine of 25 points.

Bob Dalgarno was second with 41 points and Peter Fox third on 40.

The morning players enjoyed the better of the conditions, with many afternoon players not even getting to hit off after the rain arrived at noon.

Still more than 50 players returned cards and once again scoring was hot, with 38 points required to claim a ball, except for the unlucky Ken Whitehead who missed out on count-back.

Those on the right side of fate included, Des Guerin, Peter Buckingham, Ron Walker, Graham Greenwood, Peter Waters, Mathew Dixon, Peter Dempsey, Graham Thomas and Peter Lock.

Only four players managed a birdie-two, with Peter Waters grabbing a pair of them.

Others with their eye in were Ian Ritter, Lyndsay Copeman and Graham Greenwood.

Ritter also grabbed the pro-shot on the 16th hole, while shot of the day on the eighth belonged to Graham Robinson.

Driscoll Summer Cup

THURSDAY was Round 6 of the eclectic Driscoll Summer Cup and still sees Graham Thomas leading Peter Lock and Rob McIntyre.
