Back at 19: Hudson wins handicap matchplay championship

HOT DAY: In the heat of the day last week Mary Kentish finished runner up to Bernie Jennings, with Di O’Donnell coming home in third in a nine-hole competition at the Attamurra golf course.

THE final contest in the Handicap Matchplay Championship between Lois Harvey, (last year’s winner) and Lyn Hudson was completed during the week at the Attamurra golf course, with the trophy claimed on the 17th hole by Hudson.

As expected, the event was closely contested, but Hudson was able to make good use of the four strokes her opponent had to concede, to take out the match two-up and become the 2017 champion.

Meanwhile, in regular competition, extremely hot weather conditions dictated the format, where the women played a nine hole stableford for the second week in a row.

A field of 27 members participated in the competition, where the top two scores were better than par for the course.

Bernie Jennings blitzed the field, posting a great score of 22 points, with Mary Kentish again runner up on 19 points.

Di O’Donnell was third on a count-back with 18 points.

Five balls in the rundown were won by Carol Smith, Kate McCormick, Karen Forster, Heather Chapman and Libby Alschwager.

The nearest-the-pin pro-shot on the eighth hole went to Di Norman.
