Cricket: Mid South East earn promotion with division win

STATE HONOURS: Mid South East’s Division 3 SAPSASA cricket team of Seb McCarthy (back left), Jaxon Cushion, Sam Hayes, coach Tony O’Connell, Corey Baker, Lachie Pulford, Lachie Croser, Fergus Moore (front left), Tom Moorhouse, Daniel Nunan, Alex Wesolowski, Jacob Todd, Aaron Zerk and Ellis Cushion (lying down) celebrated a good win at the State Carnival held in Adelaide last week.

THE Mid South East SAPSASA Cricket team claimed the honours in the Division 3 State Carnival held in Adelaide last week.

Winning each of its pool games, which were played in hot and trying conditions, the team earned its place in the grand final clash against the Adelaide Western District.

Intermittent showers of rain made conditions difficult for both teams, but the Mid South East boys were able to post a competitive total of 7/127 off 35 overs (reduced from 45 due to the rain).

Adelaide Western got its run chase off to a positive start, but some tight bowling, good catches and two run outs saw the side dismissed for just 91 runs.

The Mid South East team proudly accepted the gold medals presented to them by SAPSASA, while coach Tony O’Connell congratulated the boys, not only on taking out the championship, but for

the resilience, persistence and sportsmanship they displayed throughout the week.

O’Connell also thanked the parents for the role they have played in the youngsters’ achievements.

In 2018 the Mid South East team will be promoted to Division 2, where it will join its Lower South East neighbours in a battle for the bragging rights.
