LSEBA: Mount Gambier Red keeps seasiders at bay

ROUND 8 of the Lower South East Bowling Association Open Pennant season was played on Saturday, with the Mount Gambier Bowls Club recording mixed results throughout its divisions.

Division 1

Mount Gambier Red 80/16 d Port MacDonnell 44/0

THE Division 1 Red side welcomed Port MacDonnell to its greens, where it enjoyed success on all rinks.

Bec Gruar, Terry Bruhn, Brad Errock and skipper Tony Renzi had a tight game against Chris Richards in the early stages, but finished strongly to win 35-14.

Across the green, John Reppin, Bryan Vorwerk, Peter Reppin and Greg Carpenter led all day over Heather Richards’ team, to eventually finish in front with a score of 25-14.

A tough game was had by Gary McIntyre, Gary Hocking, Peter Radley and Tony Bowditch, as they lost the first eight ends before recovering.

The team pushed hard from there on and was able to claim the lead for a 20-16 win against Adam Wilson’s four.

Mount Gambier RSL Red 99/16 d Mount Gambier Blue 45/0

MOUNT Gambier’s Division 1 Blue team travelled across town on Saturday, where it was out-played by a strong Mount Gambier RSL Red side.

Ian Von Stanke’s rink suffered a 33-19 shot loss at the hands of Neil Tobin and his four, while David Babb went down to Graham Ellis’ rink 16-30.

Jeff England and his team played the solid rink skippered by Andy Ashby and he was easily beaten 10-36.

Despite winning on 10 ends, England’s side could only score ones, leaving Mount Gambier Blue to an overall defeat.

Division 2

Robe 83/16 d Mount Gambier 49/0

THE Division 2 Mount Gambier team travelled to Robe for Round 8 of the Open Pennant competition and were no match for the home side.

Mount Gambier went down to its hosts on all three rinks, leaving it to make the return trip home empty handed.

Division 3

Mount Gambier RSL Red 81/14 d Mount Gambier 73/2

DIVISION 3 played at home to the top-placed Mount Gambier RSL side, losing on two rinks for an overall defeat.

Lindsay Moyle, Rex Klaassens, Ron Kuhl and Margaret Marshall were able to win on their rink, but the John Kentish and George Kuhl skippered teams could not get over the line.

Division 4

Robe 82/14 d Mount Gambier 54/2

MOUNT Gambier’s Division 4 also travelled to Robe with limited success on Saturday.

The visitors were able to win one of the three rinks on the day, but it was not enough to secure the overall honours.
