OLYMPIC Park played host to the annual Mount Gambier and District Tennis Association mixed doubles tournament on Sunday.
While participation levels were down this year, the competition was fierce and many matches were tightly contested.
A prime example of the closeness of the event was in the final, which saw Mount Gambier’s Andrew van den Hurk and Lacey Burston play off against Reidy Park’s Ky Edwards and Bailey Young.
The Gambier duo started well to take a 4-1 lead, but Edwards and Young fought back to level the scores at 4-all.
From here van den Hurk and Burston lifted their game and were able to power to the finish in straight sets, claiming a 9-4 victory and the 2017-18 title.
