Friday Pennant Round 6

Division 1

Mount Gambier RSL Blue 55/14 d Mount Gambier RSL Red 39/0

THE Mount Gambier RSL’s Division 1 Blue team consolidated its position in the top half of the ladder with a solid defeat over sister side, Mount Gambier RSL Red on Friday.

In pleasant bowling conditions, it was a tight tussle on both rinks before lunch, with little separating the sides in the Round 6 clash.

After lunch the momentum swung in Blue’s favour and it was too consistent for the Red side as it won on both rinks.

Jane Crowder, Barb Winterfield, Shirley Gifford and Kath Hearne recorded a 28-15 win over Jennifer Bowering, Maryke Heaver, Beryl Messenger and Karen Doman, while Kym Franklin, Merna

Whitehead, Di Adams and Shirley McIntyre defeated Glenda Dalton, Robert Corner, Val Anderson and Veronica Opie 27-24.

Division 2

Kalangadoo/Penola 49/12 d Mount Gambier RSL 39/2

MOUNT Gambier RSL’s Division 2 four-match winning streak came to an end last Friday, as it hosted Kalangadoo/Penola for a 10-shot loss.

Liz Schroder, Mike Smith, Carmel McQuade and Barb Smith had a slight edge over Jean Hutchesson, Adrian Wicks, Wendy Lowe and Kathryn Brooks for most of the game.

However, the RSL stalled after the break and the guests levelled with two ends to play.

The RSL team survived the challenge to record a 24-19 win.

RSL’s Linley MacDonald, Rick Chirgwin, Pam Klem and Lyn Chirgwin were not so fortunate, as they floundered in the first half against Jane Flanagan, Norm Vaughan, Pam Davies and Jean Rogers.

After lunch the RSL lifted and won equal ends and nine shots apiece, but the win was out of reach as the side went down 15-30.

Division 3

Lucindale 45/14 d Mount Gambier RSL 36/0

A CLEAN sweep was had by Lucindale as Mount Gambier RSL’s Division 3 side lost on both rinks.

Signs were hopeful before lunch, but Lucindale had the better of the afternoon session as it knocked its opposition into second place on the ladder.

On the day, Marg Finnis’ four lost 19-23 to Chris Watts’ team, while Helen Moulden’s side went down to Marg Fallon 17-22.

Midweek Pennant

Mount Gambier RSL 67/14 d Port MacDonnell Green 32/0

THE Mount Gambier RSL Midweek Pennant bowlers were happy to be on the winning side of both rinks this week when they went up against Port MacDonnell Green.

Kathy MacIntosh, Stan Legutko, Jenny Bowering and Mike Smith defeated Lance Fisher’s team with an solid margin of 31-15.

This effort was reinforced by Nancy Horrigan, Wally Brown, Jane Crowder and Veronica Opie on their rink, as they defeated Kel Butler’s team 36-17.

Men’s Set Pairs

SUNDAY saw 18 teams play in the Mount Gambier RSL’s Set Pairs event.

Each pair had to comprise of an A and B Grader or two B Graders, with the day formatted as best of three games of three sets, consisting of five ends plus play-offs.

On the day the winning duo was Dougie McPhail and Graham Ellis, while Gary and Michael Fox came in as runners-up.
