LSEBA: Port MacDonnell weekly competitons

Saturday Open Pennant

Division 1

Port MacDonnell 75/16 d Mount Gambier Blue 53/0

PORT MacDonnell’s Division 1 team hosted Mount Gambier Blue on Saturday for Round 7 of the Open Pennant competition.

The end result saw the Bay win on all three rinks and secure the premiership points for the round.

Marcus Pietersma’s rink scored 29 to the David Babb team’s 18, and after the Mount Gambier team had the lead by six shots on the 17th end, Port MacDonnell won the remaining eight ends to claim victory.

Adam Wilson skippered his side to a 24-18 win over Jeff England’s four after being level at 14 on the 18th end.

The hosts then won all but one of the remaining ends to secure the win.

A close match was had by Chris Richards as his team faced Ian Von Stanke, with only a few shots separating the sides for most of the match.

But the home team took the win and hence the overall honours as Richards’ four won 22-17.

Division 2

Millicent 85/12 d Port MacDonnell 72/4

DIVISION 2 played at Millicent where, despite winning on two rinks, the hosts’ 46-10 triumph over Reg Fisher and his team saw Millicent take out the win.

Fisher and his rinks won only six of the 25 ends against Steve Carnellor’s side.

Ron Cox’s team played against Phil Dowdell’s side with scores level on the eighth end at nine-all.

However, the Port MacDonnell four was able to draw away with some multiples to finish 36-15.

The Kel Butler led rink had a tight game, with scores level on multiple occasions including the second to last end, but the Bay team scored a two on the final end and took home a 26-24 win.

Division 3

Kingston 80/12 d Port MacDonnell 77/4

Port MacDonnell’s Division 3 hosted Kingston for an overall loss on Saturday.

Lance Fisher’s four had the upper hand on its rink from the eighth end and led all the way to a 32-22 victory.

The second rink saw a fairly even game until the 13th end, where Kingston started to score on the majority of ends and took the win 30-16.

This loss did all the damage to Port Maconnell, as Kevin Norman’s one-shot win was not enough to bring the overall score back to the Bay’s favour.

Division 4

Port MacDonnell Blue forfeited to Beachport

Friday Pennant

Division 1

Port MacDonnell 55/14 d Millicent 50/0

IN last week’s Round 6 of the Friday Pennant season, Port MacDonnell’s Division 1 side travelled to Millicent, where it recorded a good win.

Winning by five shots overall, the team finished with all the points after it won on both rinks.

Division 2

Millicent Blue 55/13 d Port MacDonnell 39/1

DIVISION 2 played at home and hosted Millicent Blue, suffering a defeat at the hands of the guests.

Drawing on one rink, it was Millicent’s win on the second which set it up for the overall honours.

Division 3

Beachport Red 48/14 d Port MacDonnell 35/0

IT was an unfortunate result for Beachport’s Division 3 team, as it travelled to Beachport last Friday.

Losing on both rinks, the Bay struggled to make a stake on its games, with Beachport taking home the points.

Midweek

PORT MacDonnell Red hosted Mount Gambier Blue in this round’s Midweek Pennant competition.

On the first rink, the home team lost the first end, but from there on had the match won, winning 18 of the 25 ends to secure a 40-8 victory.

It was a similar story on the second rink with the final score seeing Port MacDonnell win 35-12.

Port MacDonnell Blue played Mount Gambier Red at home, with the latter taking the points.

The first match saw the visiting team with the edge as it accounted for the Bay 34-14, while on the other rink, the Mount Gambier team was the more accurate, winning 27-17.

Port MacDonnell Green travelled to the Mount Gambier RSL greens, where the home team was too strong, winning on both rinks for an overall score of 67/14 to Port MacDonnell’s 32/0.
