Aldersey shines in sun-soaked shoot

IN fine and sunny conditions the Mount Gambier Gun Club held its November competition on Saturday.

Consisting of two special events, shooters were in fine form as perfect scores were recorded on the day.

Over both events, the high gun award was presented to Andrew Aldersey after a shoot-off with Darren Beyer.

Aldersey’s final score for the day was an impressive 133/137.

The first event saw shooters contest in a 25-Target Club Double Barrel Championship, with a number of competitors recording perfect scores.

In AA Grade a shoot-off was required to determine the winner, with Gavin Height eventually emerging as both the grade and overall victor with 60/60.

Beyer was left to settle for the runner-up position with a score of 52/53.

Peter Mellington shot a perfect 34/34 to claim the A Grade honours, followed by Hayden Megan in second with 33/34.

B Grade saw Curtis Copetti in fine form as he scored 25/25 to take the win over Leon Fox with 24/25, while in C Grade Ian Hill shot a 25/27 to secure the win over Ricki Kelly on 23/27.

The second competition for the day was the 75-Target Eastern Zone Champion of Champions event, which also saw close results in all grades.
For the overall honours, Beyer and Aldersey engaged in a shoot-off, with the former claiming the champion of champions title.

Beyer also took out the AA Grade competition as he scored 121/125 to account for Don Pratt’s 115/125.

In A Grade Aldersey also shot a 121/125 to claim the win, while Allan Jones came in as runner-up with 119/125.

Copetti secured his second win for the day in B Grade with 109/125 and was followed by Fox in second with 106/125.

Ian McArthur shot well to take out the C Grade event with 102/125, accounting for Kelly’s 99/125.

This Sunday will see the club hold a come and try day open to both men and women.
