LSEBA: Tobin skippers team to successive club titles

IN the first real burst of heat this bowls season, Mount Gambier RSL’s Neil Tobin tackled the conditions to skipper his team to back-to-back success in the club’s championship fours event.

This year Dougie McPhail joined the team and he was joined by last year’s champions Peter Roachock and Peter Gregory.

A total of 14 teams entered the championship, which was held on Sunday.

Tobin’s four qualified for the final after defeating the sides skippered by Ron Ploenges, Strawb Masters andy Ashby.

On the other side of the draw, Craig Pearson, Gary Bowering, Greg Whitehead and skipper Glenn Wright knocked out Gary Feast, Rick Fallaize and Michael Fox’s teams.

In the final, the anticipated match saw scores level every few ends, before Tobin’s side surged ahead with several threes.

They went on to win convincingly, with a score of 17-8 on the 14th end.

The Champion of Champion Fours will be played at Mount Gambier on the March 25, which will be the day after the Pennant grand final.
