Disc golf spins into action

FLYING HIGH: Mount Gambier Disc Golf’s Ryan Nicholson and Kate Eldridge took out the men’s and women’s November league day wins respectively as a good field took to the Brownes Lake area to compete.

MOUNT Gambier Disc Golf’s November league day saw only a few shots separate the top three places in both the men’s and women’s divisions.

A three over par 57 saw Ryan Nicholson upset the previously undefeated Hayden McPherson by two shots, while Sean Horrigan was another shot behind to round out the podium.

For the women the results were even closer, with Kate Eldridge’s 18 over par 72 seeing her defeat Heidi Heemskerk by just one shot.

Third place was also separated by a single shot, as Michelle Schulz rounded out the podium.

For the junior competitors, the boy’s class was won by Axl Von Stanke with 99, while Rylee Seidel finished with 81 to win the girl’s event, as both grades had only one competitor.

Now eight months into the league year, the overall point standings have tightened considerably.

With only three more league days still to play, a multiple of players are well in the running to take out the yearly competition.

McPherson currently leads the men’s division with a solid 400 points, but Nicholson will be sure to give his all to narrow the margin, as he sits on 368.

Lachlan Wookey is hanging back in third on 336, but anything could happen going into the final rounds.

The women’s division is currently led by Nicole McPherson with 384 points and she is followed closely by Eldridge on 374, while Schulz is also in contention with 352.

For the junior boys, Von Stanke and Ashliegh Foulds sit on 100 each, meaning these final three rounds will be the make or break for the division.

Seidel leads the junior girls with 400 points, but she will need to maintain her form if she will fend off Maddelyn Milich, who currently sits on 368.
