NOW in its fourth year following a 14-year absence, the annual Legacy Golf Day is back in full swing and will return to the Blue Lake Public Golf Links this Sunday.

The 18-hole charity tournament was once an established fundraiser for the South East Legacy Group until it disappeared from the city’s social calendar for over a decade.

Legatee Peter Ryan said Blue Lake Golf Club manager Bill Burley was the driving force behind the event.

“Back in the day the Legacy golf tournament was a big event on the social calendar, but it went into recess for 14 years,” Mr Ryan explained.

“Three or so years ago, Bill approached the local Legacy branch and suggested we work together to start it back up to allow Legacy to reconnect with the community.

“Each year since has been bigger and better – we are building it back up to its former glory.”

Legacy provides services and support to families suffering financially or socially after the death of a spouse or parent during or after their defence force service.

“We have a network of clubs in the region and we still have around 100 dependents in the South East,” Mr Ryan said.

“All money raised will stay local and will benefit local dependents.”

Non-golfers and mixed teams are welcome and must be registered by 10am on Sunday, November 12, for an 11am shotgun start.

The four-person Ambrose style event is $30 per player or $120 per team, with a spit roast lunch at the club house and free courtesy bus pick-up and drop-off included.

Food and drinks will be available on the course.

“We had around 100 players last year and we are hoping for a bigger turnout again this year,” Mr Ryan said.

“We hope it continues to build.”
