AIM AND FIRE: Bordertown Gun Club’s two-day high gun winners ladies and junior Zoe Hawker, A Grade Lisa Hawker, overall Wayne Hawker, AA Grade Ash Hawker, Veteran Steve Chambers, B Grade Mark Tyson and C Grade Kane Hawker (front).

A TOTAL of 40 shooters set their sights on victory when competing in the recent Bordertown Gun Club held its two-day birthday shoot recently.

Competitors gathered from Adelaide, Hopetoun, Horsham, Jamestown, Kingston, Mildura, Mount Gambier, Naracoorte, Warracknabeal, Wilkawatt and Tasmania to test their luck in the well supported competition.

Shooters were greeted with a cold and windy start to the competition on Saturday, while Sunday was wet and cold in the morning before the weather cleared up for a cool and overcast afternoon.

The opening event on Saturday – the 30-target double barrel championship – saw Wayne Hawker, Gavin Height and Allan Jones all shoot possibles, which meant a further 30 targets were shot to determine an overall winner.

However, it was Hawker who claimed the honours with a perfect 60/60 score.

There was just two possibles for the 30-target single barrel championship with Ash Hawker and Jones with perfect scores.

Jones missed his first, while Ash Hawker made no mistake to take the overall with a score of 31/31.

In the third and final event for the day, Martin Collumb showed the way to take the overall in the 30-target pointscore championship, dropping just one target 89/90.

Entering into the second day of competition four AA shooters opened their day with possibles in the 50-target double barrel championship – Collumb, John Hawker, Wayne Hawker and Height.

A further 34 targets in the shoot off saw Collumb 84/84 triumph over Wayne Hawker 83/84 for the overall prize.

In the second and final event of the day, which was the second pair double rise championship Ash Hawker was again a standout with an impressive score of 37/40, four targets ahead of Greg Kessegian 33/40, while Don Beelitz, Collumb, John Hawker, Wayne Hawker and Height all on 32/40.

In conclusion of the two-day shoot Wayne Hawker was awarded the overall high gun with a score of 226/240, while Zoe Hawker managed an impressive 198/240 to take out both the women and junior overall high gun and Veteran Steve Chambers was best in his class, shooting 198/240.

Presentations concluded on Sunday with the drawing of a cartridge raffle.

The club wishes to thank all the sponsors of the birthday shoot and all those who contributed in the running of the competition.
