TOP DAY FOR SHOOT: Steve Scheidl, Jamie Dunn, Ron Rhook, Leigh Dunn, Peter Klieve, Will Vickery and Ernie Scheidl assessing the targets during the South East Field and Game’s 75 target sporting clays event last weekend.

COOL, dry and still weather created near perfect conditions for the 111 shooters who nominated for the South East Field and Game’s 75 target sporting clays event last weekend.

Course Setter Ken Atkin set three semi-old-style grounds to test the shooter’s skill and concentration, with shoot-offs required in nearly all grades to determine podium positions.

The experienced Ron Rhook tore out of the blocks with consecutive perfect 25 scores, but after 75 targets a three-way tie resulted, with Jeremy Kent and Scott McIntyre joining Rhook on 73/75.

A shoot-off was required, shooting simultaneous pairs, which was won by Kent after he managed the rare feat of smashing the two crossing targets with one shot to take out the high gun, leaving Rhook to claim AA Grade from McIntyre, with Danny Bellinger in third.

Visiting Coleraine shooter Steven Crawford won A Grade from Allan Cowin and Michael Brilley, who also had to be separated by a shoot-off.

Skeet specialist Brian Spring made a welcome return to the sporting clay scene with a B Grade win from Charles Wallis, who also won his shoot-off over Gary Allison.

Three C-graders tied on 48/75, with a lengthy shoot-off ensuing to determine the podium places.

Neale Emmerson prevailed over Daniel Harradine and Matt Crook.

The Veterans category was won by Wayne Gurney, who narrowly defeated Wayne Evans and Neville Kent, while in Super Veterans Barry Hill romped home by three targets over traditional sparring partners Greg Todd and Kevin Dyson.

Tash Bellinger again dominated the Ladies class, with both Tamara VonStanke and Janette Densley snapping at her heals with steady improvement.

Max Crook won the juniors and it took a shoot-off to separate sub juniors Declan Wright from Will Vickery and Shak VonStanke, trailing close behind in third.
