Club teams clash

ROUND 3 of the Open Pennant competition saw the Mount Gambier Bowls Club’s Red and Blue teams go head-to-head in the Division 1 competition.

In a tight encounter, the Red side was able to pull away in the last four ends, scoring 19 shots to four and recording an 86/16 to 62/0 victory.

John Reppin, Bryan Vorwerk, Peter Reppin and Greg Carpenter had a comfortable 30-18 win against Perria Davis’ rink, while Kristy Errock, Terry Bruhn, Brad Errock and Tony Renzi had a 33-23 triumph against the David Babb team.

Gary McIntyre, Gary Hocking, Peter Radley and Tony Bowditch had a close contest Ian VonStanke’s side, but was able to pull through for a 23-21 win.

In Division 2 Mount Gambier travelled to Millicent and had a narrow win against its hosts.

Winning on two rinks, the visitors returned home with a score of 64/9 to Millicent’s 64/7.

Ren Davis and his team was able to defeat Steve Chanellor’s rink 18-16, while Don Fraser led his side to a 23-21 win against Phil Dowdell.

Bob Cranwell went down 23-27 to Peter Varcoe’s side, but it was enough to secure the overall win.

Division 3 saw Mount Gambier play its cross-town rival when it went up against Mount Gambier RSL Blue.

George Kuhl’s was the only winning rink for the Mount Gambier team as the RSL Blue team triumphed 68/14 to Mount Gambier’s 61/2.
