SATURDAY was the October medal round at Attamurra golf course which provided a thorough test for golfers.

Sam Ferguson passed the test with flying colours, posting the low round of the day, a nett 66.

He claimed the C Grade trophy by a big six strokes, with Don Coulter posting a respectable nett 72.

Darren Harding also had a day out, claiming the B Grade trophy with nett 68.

His 81 off-the-stick could have been better, with double bogeys at the first, 10th and 15th holes.

Harding has been squeezing in the odd “after work nine” with the advent of daylight savings and the extra practice is showing reward.

Right behind Harding was Parker Smith with an excellent 69 nett, a result which could see his last October medal played in B Grade.

David Anderson shot a nett 70 in A Grade, winning by one from Joe Clements on nett 71.

Players needed 73 nett or better to make the cut and win a ball, except for Jason Mann and Duncan Savage, who scraped through as the best of the 74’s.

Winners included Stephen Herbert, Simon Tulak, Neil McKay, Brad Von Duve, David McGregor, Paul Kenny, Setio Shanahan, Peter Jones, Brendon Curley and Richard Farrance.

Professional Craig Davis was a lot happier this week with only two players managing a birdie-two.

Well done to John Hopkins and Harding.

Ben Robinson claimed the A Grade nearest-the-pin, Jo Clements the pro-shot on the 16th hole and Harding capped off an excellent day taking the B Grade nearest-the-pin and the shot-of-the day on the eighth.

Women’s Stableford

SATURDAY saw 14 women take to the course for a stableford round, with a count-back required to find a winner.

Lois Harvey and Heather Chapman both posted 36 points, with Harvey taking the winner’s cheque by the slimmest of margins.

Christine Galpin rounded out the placings with 35 points, Carol Davis finished on 34 and Marie Douglas came home fifth on 33.

Faye Mainwaring and Helen Gregory both grabbed a birdie on a par three to claim a ball, while nearest-the-pin on the 16th went to Bernie Jennings and Christine Galpin claimed shot-of-the-day on the eighth hole.

Thursday Stableford

AN excellent field of 80 players enjoyed the mild conditions and the extra fairway run a few days of sun produces on Thursday for a stableford event.

The improved conditions meant preferred lies had been rescinded and it was a return to the traditional, ‘play it as it lies’.

Jim Douglas found no trouble with the ruling, posting and excellent 41 points to take the $100 winners voucher.

Hot on his heels was a trio of players – John Osman, Henni Nieuwendyk and Michael Foran – who all posted 40 points.

John Sandery and Allan Gray both posted 39, with Ian Ritter, Graham Patterson, John Hopkins and Barry Brook all finishing on 38 to round out the top 10.

Players needed 37 points or better to win a ball, with Chris Lynch and Winston Prowse slipping through as the best of the 36’s.

Other winners included Anthony Bolton, Ross Bond, Greg Hudson, Kent Comely, Peter Lock and Mike Atwell.

Only seven birdies were made on the par three’s, with winners including, Peter Dempsey, Mathew Leigh, Peter Raymond, Ritter, Nieuwendyk, Gray and Brook.

Garry McCormack claimed the pro-shot on the 16th hole, while Terry Janeway took the chocolates with shot-of-the-day on the signature eighth.
