GAVIN Height shone bright in the sunny conditions which greeted Mount Gambier Gun Club members at its October competition on Saturday.

Height secured the highgun honours with an impressive final score of 80/90.

The day saw all shooters return good scores, starting with the 25-target ball trap championship.

Allan Pollock won AA Grade with a score of 20/25.

Darren Beyer shot an impressive 24/25 to secure A Grade from Height with 22/25, while B Grade was won by Matthew Robinson on 24/25.

Robinson was followed by Wally Wombwell in second with 24/27.

In the C Grade competition, Heath Telford performed to manage a 20/25 and claim the honours over Garry Bowd with 18/25.

The second event for the day was a 25-Target single barrel championship which was keenly shot.

After a shoot-off the AA Grade win was given to Height with 26/27 from Geoff Illman with 25/27.

Gary Schmidt won A Grade with a score of 23/25, while the runner-up spot was taken by Andrew Hoare with 23/26.

B Grade saw Bowd with a 20/25 and a victory over Darren Murrell with 19/25, while Ricki Kelly shot 22/26 to win C Grade from Ian Hill on 21/26.

The third and final event for Saturday saw shooters contest a 20 pair double rise championship.

Competitors’ marksmanship was tested, as the two targets were released simultaneously.

This did not prevent Pollock from taking out the AA Grade win with 36/40, with Height coming in as runner-up with 43/50.

A Grade saw Steve Chambers shoot 32/40 to claim the victory from Telford with 31/40, while Robinson edged out Brian Jarret for the win, with the shooters finishing on 29/40 and 27/40 respectively.

Hill displayed fine form in C Grade and he won with 27/40 from Kelly on 25/40.

The next competition will be held November 10.
