A LEISURELY long weekend brought the local archers out in force with one of the bigger line ups for the year.

Nine competitors occupied the 50-metre shooting line to take part in a 90-arrow Melbourne round.

Among the group was Phil Tremelling who was able to join in on the main range as there were no beginners present to coach.

Tremelling was the sole recurve archer on the line, with the remainder all utilising compound bows.

Tremelling is working up toward full competition and elected not to officially score his round, but was buoyed by the scores he achieved.

Paul Freeman notched up his fifth and final round to establish his handicap rating and will be fully competitive with the other club members from the next round.

A Perfect 60-point end to Ben Kilsby in the final stages of the day complimented the 10 all-gold ends he achieved.

Garry Jacques added to his collection of all-gold ends in the fourth end of the day.

Len Bayley has had the handicap system in a spin since the debut of his new bow and this week another Personal Best will require additional adjustment to bringing him back toward the group.

During the event Bayley twice missed out by mere millimetres on gaining his elusive first all-gold end for the 50m range.

After the final tally of scores Kilsby emerged as the best off-the-bow score, but again it was not enough to reel in Bayley, a margin of 37 points separating Bayley and Kilsby.
