WEST Gambier’s Western Border netball season is over after a scrappy first semi-final loss to East Gambier.

In a game that never reached great heights, it was the accuracy on delivery and with the finish that saw the Bulldogs advance to the preliminary final.

Tenille Gray was reliable in the shooting circle, converting 19 from 22 in the second half to ensure West was never able to threaten.

Despite Nicole Butler and Amy Cram working hard, they were unable to create enough turnovers to keep West in touch.

Supply was an issue, generating 15 less scoring shots than the Bulldogs – a stat that was even more surprising seeing in the final minor round – they had 10 more than their semi-final opponent.

East had the better of the opening quarter with Brenna McKay having a field day on the intercept while Sarah Lock finished well from long range.

Tarsh McCallum was the key link player for East as it set up a five-goal quarter time lead.

However, the Roos did rally in the second and kept the margin at five at the main break.

Desperate to change the complexion of the game, West swung the changes at the half.

Lisa McGregor went back to shooter and Olivia McEvoy to goal attack, with Carly Trevilyan into the middle.

Teenager Hannah Witherow also entered the clash on the defensive wing.

The changes did not stop East from controlling the second half as Gray ensured there would be no comeback with accurate shooting.

The margin was at nine at the final change before the Bulldogs extended it to 15 by the final whistle.

Final score: East Gambier 55 d West Gambier 40
