WBNA: Roos face Cats in semi-final

West v East Gambier Football & Netball
DO-OR-DIE: West Gambier coach Lisa McGregor will put it all on the line when the Roos face East Gambier in the Western Border netball knockout semi-final at Blue Lake Sports Park today.

CASTERTON Sandford will take on East Gambier outfit in today’s elimination semi-final.

There is plenty of talent and experience in the Casterton Sandford squad, with B Grade association best and fairest and runner-up Paige Cameron and Lorree Lane.

Cameron is a damaging goaler with strong movement, while Lane dominates the mid court.

Add to the experience of Kerri Harvey, who has spent most of the season in tandem with Cameron and the return of Kate Gill-Killey.

Lauren Cleary has been added to the front court in the shooting circle and rising talent Eva Chandler can also provide a strong target under the post.

Ash MacDonald anchors a strong defensive line.

MacDonald is a tight checking defender with good aerial skills, complemented by the tenacity and speed of Amber Balzan, and the skills of Kate Cameron.

Bree Gilmour is the team’s “X-factor”.

Meanwhile, East coach and long time goaler Bindi Davis has been joined by teenager Alysia Geraghty in the shooting circle.

Both are strong on the hold and in the air and will test the Cats defensive line with the help of accurate feeders Bec Famularo and Olivia Coote.

At the other end, East has the tight-marking Shelley Pedlar and Laura Pratt.

The duo’s cause is also helped by the work of April Francis on the defensive wing.

Francis uses her pace to great effect to deny opponents easy access to the circle and when you add Rosie Pike and Alex Quick to the defensive mix, the Bulldogs will not give the Cats easy avenues to goal.

The Cats – with the more settled line-up across the entire court – are favourites.
