SKILL BUILDING: Student Megan Baseley receives instruction regarding correct positioning from Shihan Andrew during the two-day martial arts seminar recently attended by members of Jik Cheung Kung Fu Australia in Adelaide.

MEMBERS of Jik Cheung Kung Fu Australia were recently provided the opportunity to attend a two-day martial arts seminar in Adelaide.

Held by the Society of Martial Arts (SOMA) and the World Ju Jitsu Federation-World Ju Jitsu Kobudo Organisation (WJJF-WJJKO) Australasia, the seminar consisted of cross training between different styles of martial art and included both open-hand and weapon practices.

Across the weekend, students received training in traditional karate (Shotokan style), hanbo (stick) techniques and Aki-Jitsu striking and breaking.

Instructors provided self-defence techniques from several martial arts styles, including two sessions conducted by local Jik Cheung Kung Fu instructor Sifu Amadeo Cella.

Students also undertook training in bokken (wooden sword), Ju Jitsu ground defence and throwing.

The weekend was interactive and enjoyable thanks to the hospitality shown by both the instructors and other students.

The seminar was an interesting and exciting blend of multiple martial arts styles and all the students returned with a different perspective on martial arts.
