AN early jump allowed Glencoe to claim bragging rights over Port MacDonnell in Round 14 of Mid South East netball.

The Murphies were strong from the first whistle, while the Demons made a number of passing errors due to the tight defence of Caitlin Liebich and Jenna Paproth.

Glencoe displayed a patient start to the game with timely passing to ensure Chantelle Weir and Ebony McDiarmid had plenty of scoring opportunity.

As a result at the first break the Murphies had a six-goal lead.

Glencoe only built in the second, through some hard work by Jordy Jones at wing defence, along with Paproth and Liebich.

This created plenty of opportunities for the attack line even under relentless pressure from Brooke Hawkins at goal keeper and goal defence Megan Hein.

At the long break Glencoe held a solid 12 goal lead and looked to build.

Port MacDonnell made numerous changes at half time, which unsettled Glencoe.

Hein moved from defence into centre for the Demons and her height and agility made for a tough dual with Alyce Finnis.

Alyssa Boylan was moved to defence to try and kerb the dominance of the Glencoe goalies, but once the Murphies settled they still won the quarter by three.

The last term was a tight contest, but the hard work of Glencoe early in the game ensured its convincing win.

Jones took some timely intercepts and stepped up against Jess Trench.

However, Port MacDonnell fought the game out hard with the Murphies only adding one extra goal to their lead due to some accurate shooting from Sophie Roach.

Best players for Glencoe went to Leibich and McDiarmid, while for the Demons it was Roach and Lisa McGregor who stepped up.

Kalangadoo 66 d Nangwarry 39

KALANGADOO continues its undefeated status in the Mid South East netball competition with a win over Nangwarry.

The Saints made changes to their line-up with Suzie Crowe out for the remainder of the season.

As a result Demi Gray stepped up from A Reserve, while the Magpies were without star goalie Melissa Russell.

Both sides started off well with Nangwarry’s defence of Cassie Dinnison and Carly Ploenges making Kalangadoo goalies work for every possession.

However, the Magpies defence of Narelle Ryan and Jasmine Croser dominated which allowed Kalangadoo to take a 18-5 lead by the first break.

The Magpies continued to dominate the play.

Jayde Peacock and Chloe Vanderhorst had a solid battle through the middle, providing drive for their teams.

Dinnison and Ploenges continued to get hands to the ball making Abbey Duncan and Eliza Hunter work hard to finish off with the goal.

However, the Magpies were in front by a convincing margin of 18 at the break.

Both sides made changes, with Shauni Cunnigham heading from wing attack into goals, swapping with Hunter.

Duncan stepped up this quarter being main focal point in goals and driving hard into the ring.

Down the other end Malinda Markiewicz and Demi Gray started to combine well and move the ball around until in the right position despite good pressure from Kalangadoo’s defence.

But Kalangadoo still had control of the game.

The Saints never gave up as Markiewicz made her presence known and ran hard, while also finishing off accurately.

However, in the end it was Kalangadoo who took a convincing victory.

Ryan and Duncan were best for the Magpies, while Nangwarry’s Vanderhorst and Gray were standouts.

Kongorong 73 d Robe 45

KONGORONG took a convincing victory over Robe to keep its hopes of Mid South East netball finals alive.

Both teams started strong with attack lines working hard to feed the ball into their goalies, who converted well.

Kongorong goal attack Brittany McEvoy was the play maker for the Hawks from the opening whistle.

Robe defenders Indi Deane and Jordie Alexander continued to work hard, but could not match the height and accuracy of Tabatha Sanderson.

The Roosters’ goal shooter Sarah Laurie was strong and confident for her team.

She held strong and shot with accuracy and was fed well by Robe’s Kim Ross, which made it difficult for the Hawks to create turnovers.

At the long break the Roosters trailed by 10.

Kongorong’s defence picked up and forced Robe to pay for any missed goals as they rebounded strongly and returned the ball to their attacking end who converted well.

In the end the Hawks were too strong and took a solid win.

Kongorong’s best were Allison Anderson and Shannon Scheidl, while the Roosters’ stand outs were Ross and Alexander.

Hatherleigh 49 d Tantanoola 37

HATHERLEIGH claimed the win by a smaller margin than expected when hitting the court against Tantanoola in Round 14 of Mid South East netball.

The margin was just 12 goals by the final whistle.

Both teams started out strong with Emma Gould and Keston Green showcasing their talent in the goal circle for their respective sides.

Every player on the court had to fight to gain possession, with many tight match ups taking place.

At the first break there was just one goal the difference in favour of the Eagles.

The second quarter saw both teams have limited opportunities in the goal circle with each scoring eight-a-piece, which allowed Hatherleigh to hold onto its one-goal lead.

Jami Walker came off with five minutes remaining in the second and was replaced by Jac Matthews, which saw Gould go to goal attack.

Olivia Fuller had the height advantage in defence shutting down Melissa McGrath.

Helen Hamilton and Casey Walker on the wing had a tight tussle making it an even match up on the ring.

Jami Walker returned to the court at goal shooter when the Tigers entered the third quarter, with Vic Lucas taking the wing defence bib and Casey Arney centre.

Hatherleigh also made changes, Lara MacGregor and Hamilton swapping positions, while Marnie Smith entered the clash at goal shooter, which saw a height match up in their goal circle.

The game continued to be even.

However, the Eagles forced the turnovers and were able to convert to be up by five at three-quarter-time.

In the fourth quarter Lucas and Arney changed their positions back.

Hatherleigh found momentum, with Kelsey Wight having a great impact on her sides attack line and Green finding her range.

The Eagles out-scored the Tigers in the final term and saw them win by 12.

MacGregor and Wight were best for the victorious side, while Gould and Fuller were standouts for Tantanoola.
