MOUNT Gambier’s Aaron Bowering and Nathan Lowe have set the pace during this year’s South Australian Rally Championship, with the lightning fast duo in first place after round two at the Rally of the Heartland in Burra.

The win at Burra followed another first place victory in round one at the Southern Rally in Second Valley, where they finished thirty seconds ahead of fellow Mount Gambier competitor Gary Brown.

The round two win saw Bowering and Lowe pull out a 44 second lead over Brown on the opening stage, before finishing the event an impressive two minutes and 35 seconds ahead of the next best competitor.

“We are in first place at the moment after winning the first two rounds which is pretty exciting,” Bowering said.

“There are five rounds in total, with the first four on different tracks outside of Adelaide and the final round in Heywood.

“Nathan is the navigator in the car with me, he reads the maps and notes on where to go, so it’s a team effort.”

Bowering said there was a friendly rivalry between the first and second placed Mount Gambier competitors.

“Gary Brown is in second place, so a couple of Mount Gambier locals are showing them how it’s done at the moment,” he said.

“I’ve been rallying since I was 14 or 15, I started out in Motorkhana and Autocross.

“It’s an exhilarating sport and the competition is unpredictable – holding first place might only be short lived.”

The next round of the South Australian Rally Championship will be held at Robertstown on August 12.
