Community service ordered over crash

A NARACOORTE man has been ordered to complete community service after crashing his motorcycle into a large rock while riding disqualified.

Samuel Darbey appeared in the Mount Gambier Magistrates Court last week for sentencing.

The prosecutor said Darbey was riding his motorcycle on the afternoon of April 27 when he crashed and was sent to the Naracoorte Hospital for minor injuries.

Mr Darbey originally lost his license on March 27 for a drug-driving offence.

The defendant’s lawyer said her client acknowledged he should not have been operating the motorcycle.

Magistrate Fahey warned Darbey driving under disqualification could lead to a term of imprisonment.

Darbey was fined $700 and ordered to serve eight months community service.
