Violent offender held at prison

A MAN has been refused bail after he was charged with an alleged aggravated assault in Millicent that left a woman in hospital with serious head and facial injuries.

Police received a report of a woman having been seriously assaulted at around 8am Sunday by a man known to her in the South East town.

The victim was being treated in hospital for serious head and facial injuries when the report was made.

Enquiries by police led to the arrest of Nikola Novakovic, 46, and he was charged with aggravated assault.

Novakovic appeared via video-link in the Adelaide Magistrates Court Monday and was remanded in custody at the Mount Gambier Prison.

He is next scheduled to appear on November 14 in the Mount Gambier Magistrates Court.

A warrant had been out for Novakovic’s arrest over alleged charges of threatening to kill, which relate to an incident in Brompton earlier this year.
