A MOUNT Gambier man who was found with 14 tablets of MDMA and three grams of methamphetamine was sentenced to two years in prison Wednesday.
Nathan Walter Braddock, 35, appeared in the Mount Gambier District Court to be sentenced for two counts of trafficking a controlled drug.
Police attended the defendant’s house on January 21 and found 14 tablets containing 3.92g of MDMA.
A further search led to the discovery of 3g of methamphetamine.
Police also found a range of equipment which suggested the defendant was dealing in drugs.
They seized a mobile phone, scales and a number of bags.
Judge Gordon Barrett said while the amount of drugs was at the lower end of seriousness, there was evidence of ongoing drug behaviour.
“You were the middle man so you could fund your own drug habit,” Judge Barrett said.
“The trading was not isolated.”
Judge Barrett also cited the many chances Braddock has been given on home detention, however each time he has failed to comply with court orders.
The first time he was granted home detention bail he failed to provide urine samples on four occasions.
A few months later when he was granted bail for a second time he failed to attend at court and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Judge Barrett sentenced Braddock to one year and 10 months for count one and two years and two months for count two.
The sentences were to be served accumulatively and a non-parole period of one year and one month was set.
He also reduced the sentence by two months for time already spent in prison, making the final head sentence two years with a non-parole period of 11 months.
The sentence was backdated to commence on July 14.
Judge Barrett ordered the forfeiture of the drugs and equipment.
