POLICE across the Wattle Range Council region will be monitoring crowds and driver behaviour on Saturday as football and netball finals are held at Tantanoola and Penola.
Local police resources are set to be boosted by the South East Highway Patrol.
Millicent Police officer in charge Senior Sergeant First Class Peter Brown said random breath tests will be undertaken by officers.
Sgt Brown said there are five main factors which contribute to road trauma – drink and drug driving, speeding, failing to wear seat belts, distraction by using items such as mobile phones and dangerous drivers.
“Officers will be active in policing the ‘fatal five’ but all drivers are urged to take responsibility for their own actions when travelling to and from the finals,” he said
Western Border finals start on September 2 with Millicent’s McLaughlin Park hosting the preliminary final on September 16.
