Learning on the job

EXPERIENCE GAINED: Tenison Woods College student Emma Stokes completed work experience at The Border Watch. (Sophie Conlon: 417726)

This week I had the wonderful opportunity to do work experience at The Border Watch, covering a range of activities including taking photos, writing articles, and even leading the odd interview.

Working at The Border Watch gave me an invaluable insight into the world of journalism and all of the process of creating a newspaper, as well as helping me develop a journalist’s writing style and vocabulary.

I am so grateful towards The Border Watch team for being so friendly and accommodating, allowing me to shadow them for a week and participate in interviews and photography.

I have learnt so much from this week alone and I would recommend doing this for work experience to anyone interested in writing and/or photography

It was also very useful experience as being able to present the photos and articles to potential employers in the future will help me greatly when I start to enter the workplace.

A huge thank you to The Border Watch for having me and making me feel so involved, I now know more about the limestone coast community than I ever have before.
