ALONG with clearly some 95pc of South East residents, I applaud the SA Liberal Government as well as minor parties and independents for not only listening to “the people”, but listening to the overwhelming amount of damning peer reviewed science on the subject of unconventional gas.
However, we need to remember that it is the latest prime minister to come out of the Canberra circus who as treasurer threatened state and territory governments with financial penalties by cutting their GST distribution if they limit gas exploration.
State governments are clearly under enormous pressure so we need to not only thank those politicians who genuinely represent the people, but importantly keep the pressure on those in the Federal Liberal Government with their heads still buried in the sand whom it would appear are only listening to those with their snouts in the mining industry trough.
To see why I take such a strong stance against unconventional gas in particular I encourage anyone who has not yet seen the film Pipe Dreams Fractured Lives to come along to one of the screenings in the South East over the next two weeks.
