In an effort to raise awareness of men’s health three men are travelling more than 4000 kilometres from Cape Jervis, South Australia, to the top of Cape York, Queensland, in three weeks.

Leaving Cape Jervis on Saturday, August 24, Shane Muldoon, Bryan Littlely and Dave Howard spent their first night in Mount Gambier/Berrin, before travelling onto Naracoorte on August 25 to meet Naracoorte Motorcycles and Mowers owner Tony Olsen.

During their journey, Mr Muldoon, Mr Littlely and Mr Howard would stop at men’s sheds, returned services leagues (RSLs), and other men’s places to have a chat and share the messages of their various sponsors.

Mr Muldoon said the ‘Male Run’ was inspired by his experiences with cancer and his want to improve regional and remote health care, particularly for men.

“I started this due to my experience when diagnosed with possible cancer,’’ he said.

“With poor communication, timelines and triage, it took me 10 months before I got an appointment.

“Poor protocols and procedures in the health system for rural and remote Australians need to be revised.

“Rural or remote men die approximately five years younger with preventable deaths over four times higher than their city counterparts.”
