A funding allocation will be removed from the City of Mount Gambier’s 2024/25 budget, but council will continue to support its neighbour’s Mount Gambier Districts Livestock 2030 Transformation Project.

After a deputation from District Council of Grant mayor Kylie Boston in February, city council voted to contribute $77,000 to the project over two financial years.

A $38,500 grant allocation was approved in city council’s 2024/25 budget, however Grant council was unsuccessful in its grant funding bid through the federal government’s Growing Regions Program, meaning the project would not go ahead as planned.

As funding would not be required this financial year at city council’s August meeting elected members voted to remove the $38,500 at Budget Review 1.

At the same time, councillors voted to reiterate in principle support and continue to advocate as appropriate.

It was noted details of future funding applications or changes to scope would be presented for consideration.

“We will await the outcome of their next application to determine next steps,” City of Mount Gambier mayor Lynette Martin said.
