A WELL-KNOWN and respected Mount Gambier/Berrin man will be recognised in a new section of commercial development.

Raymond Scott was known within the community for the development of the Scotts Group of Company.

Mr Scott passed away at age 70 in 2020 following a long battle with cancer.

Many Mount Gambier/Berrin residents would recall a fitting tribute to the motorsport and truck driving local legend with hundreds of people lining the city’s outskirts to bid farewell to him with a truck convoy.

Now, in memory of their father, his children will celebrate with the District Council of Grant approving two street names in recognition of his contribution to the region.

The land division at the corner of Sturm Road and the Riddoch Highway will have ‘Raymond Drive’ and ‘Walter Court’ named in memory of Mr Scott.

Mr Scott’s daughter Prue Xanthopoulos said the naming of the streets meant the world to his children who wanted to keep their father’s memory alive.

“When we did the development we wanted to acknowledge dad,” Ms Xanthopoulos said.

“He loved Mount Gambier and wanted to see it grow and so we just wanted to have something as a memorial.”

She said having the street names approved was a good way for his memory to live on with his family always keeping him in mind.

“He was such a big part of Mount Gambier and he was so loved,” Ms Xanthopoulos said.

“He was a massive part of our community, we loved him and we always have him in our minds when we are making decisions and are happy council agreed to name the streets.”

She said by elected members agreeing to the request it showed the respect Mr Scott had within the community.

“Anyone who has lost a parent wants to keep their memory alive and this is just a small way we can do that,” she said.
