Pathways to a Pay Packet is returning to Naracoorte High School for a bigger and more diverse year after being awarded the Naracoorte Community Event of the Year on Australia Day 2023.

The annual career expo and information event will be hosted in Williamson Hall at Naracoorte High School on Monday August 7 and will welcome stall holders from local businesses, multi-branch job opportunities, tertiary study locations and a variety of industries.

Naracoorte High School’s Senior Leader of Inclusive Education, Pathways and Flexible Delivery, Tammy Schinckel said that the Pathways to a Pay Packet is a great opportunity to connect with the community and see the options out there for post-learning work and study.

“The Pathways to a Pay Packet event won the Australia Day Community Event last year and this year we are making it bigger than previous years, with more businesses that have come on board and different industries represented,” she said.

“The various industries and businesses have a real presence in our region, so we have places like Teys that are just on our doorstep, but we also have places involved in the forestry fields this year and have a gentleman who builds games come on board.”

Stall holders will feature a variety of paths for students and families around the district to consider pursuing, including hospitality, communications, emergency services, technology, electrical work and others.

“We have managed to get the Pathways team from the state that actually work with young people with disabilities and employers to promote people with disabilities in the workforce, so really looking at those transitional phases for people with disabilities into the workforce,” she said.

“We are trying to up the information for people with disabilities and young people at our schools that there are legitimate pathways they can access after school. We have many local faces also represented on the day and it is fantastic that they have come aboard.

“It is a great opportunity to connect with people in the community, for employers and the students, and is not only for Naracoorte High School students and any families and children that go anywhere can come along.”

The Pathways to a Pay Packet expo will take place from 6pm to 9pm on Monday August 7.
