A callout from the Lions Club of Naracoorte seeking donations of doonas, blankets and sleeping bags to assist people in the Naracoorte community who are struggling to keep warm has drawn a massive response from locals and businesses.

Club president Jeff McDonald said that during the recent ‘Code Blue’ declaration, it was brought to his attention that Naracoorte does have a number of people who are sleeping rough as well as people who, in the current economic crisis are battling to keep warm.

“Some of these people are slipping under the radar so our club has taken the initiative to help when and where a need is identified,’ he said.

Lions have distributed items through referrals from local charities, schools and churches.

The recipients include people sleeping rough or who are at risk of doing so, plus several families who are battling with the costs of heating their homes.

To let the Lions Club know of someone who could legitimately use a hand to keep warm this winter or to donate good, clean items, phone Mr McDonald on 0419 942 356 or Shelley Koch on 0427 780 018.
