After an exciting first year of operation, the Good Country Community Op Shop committee is gearing up to host a birthday celebration for the whole community.

Committee member Meredith Beck said it had been a fabulous year, with the shop able to donate more than $40,000 throughout the region.

“We’ve provided towards the patient transfer facility, provided money towards the schools, playgroups,” she said.

“A defibrillator we’ve given to the Over 50s Club, there have been a lot of donations given out.

“All sorts of different groups and it’s all through the Tatiara, so Bordertown, Mundulla, Keith, Padthaway, Wolseley, Willalooka, everywhere in the Tatiara.”

Ms Beck said from the beginning giving back to the community was a big driver for the committee.

“When we started this op shop we wanted the money to go into our community because often local communities miss out in the country,” she said.

“We thought if everything went back into the district it would be fantastic.”

A founding committee member, Ms Beck said so many people had helped the op shop grow in its first year.

“I was one of many, there was not only the committee, but so many other volunteers that have helped get this place up and running,” she said.

“It has been a lot of work, but we have had a lot of fun with it and the community has been so generous.”

To celebrate the op shop’s first year, the committee will throw a birthday party for the community.

Ms Beck said there would be something for everyone on the day with 50 per cent in the shop, a barbecue and some special surprises.

“We will have plenty of specials on the day, so I think come down and have a look,” she said.

The celebration will kick off at Good Country Community Op Shop at 12pm on Friday, July 12, and run to 5pm.
