Penola’s Robert Rymill recently placed third in A division at the Crayzee Lobster Chess Tournament held in Port MacDonnell.

In his first ever competition, the nine-year-old played eight games of chess against six adults and two under 16 juniors.

Robert, who has only been playing chess for about six months, said before the matches he felt confident, despite playing against senior competitors seven times his own age.

“I like playing against adults who are really good because I can learn a lot, even if I don’t win at first- maybe I’ll beat them next time,” he said.
