Members and guests of the Bordertown Over 50’s club were treated to a Scottish program on May 10.

Local performers encouraged the audience to sing, laugh and clap along.

Special guest Rosemary Gerhardy, dressed in a beautiful red and black kilt, opened the program with Scotland the Brave on her Bagpipes.

The all female choir was next with Scottish classics including Sky Boat Song and Mull of Kintyre.

Later the audience joined in when they sang Loch Lomond, and Roamin’ in the Gloamin’.

Lynne Burton, Keith Lee and Pat Martlew are always guaranteed to make the audience laugh and this month they performed skits about a man buying enough underwear to last him a year, an English woman trying to teach a Scott how to speak properly and finally a ship wrecked sailor.

The audience was introduced to Eric Altmann, a talented singer and accordionist from Balhanna, who performed Sailing and A Scottish Soldier.

Lee, still dressed in his kilt and showing a bit of leg, had everyone laughing as he sang Donald Where’s Your Trousers.

The Bush Band went Scottish too, with their set including Comin’ thro the Rye.

Heather Wiese recalled a story about her five-year-old great-grandson who told her she had to learn to share her Scottish raspberry jam.

Gerhardy returned to the stage to finish the program with a moving rendition of Highland Cathedral and Amazing Grace.

The Over 50’s Club invite you to join them at 1.30pm on May 31 for a performance by the Hoffman Duo. Entry $5. Please bring a plate to share.
