OVARIAN and breast cancer will be top of mind again this Mother’s Day with the Mother’s Day Classic well underway.

Registrations are now open for the annual fundraiser which focuses on raising awareness and funds for the diseases.

This year will be the first year the event will raise funds for ovarian cancer with organiser Megan Medhurst labelling it a “silent killer”.

“People will be able to walk around the Blue Lake and have a bit of a catch up as a family or with friends while also supporting women,” Ms Medhurst said.

“It will raise money for breast cancer but for the first time this year it will raise money for ovarian cancer because it is the silent killer.”

As well as registrations – which will be available up until the event – a raffle will be held to help raise extra money.

“The donations for the raffle are from our wonderful businesses and will be available for the community to win,” Ms Medhurst said.

“There will be people there on the day to talk about their experience through the cancer process as well.”

She said awareness for ovarian and breast cancer was on the rise with many community members continuing to jump on board and support the campaigns.

“Nothing has changed in five years so it is definitely something that we should help get extra funds towards,” Ms Medhurst said.

“Breast cancer continues to touch so many lives throughout Australia so we are really looking forward to supporting those people.

“We get quite a few families coming out in the morning which is such a good way for people to also find out a bit of information for themselves as well.”

Encouraging the community to come along and participate, Ms Medhurst said every dollar raised goes towards helping those touched by the two diseases.

“People are able to register now or on the day and it really does not take up much of their time,” she said.

“It is a lap around the Blue Lake and then everyone gets to go out for lunch with their mums either at home or by supporting one of our wonderful cafes.”

Registrations can be made on the Mothers Day Classic website with general registration costing $35, concession costing $30 and children coasting $25.

Those wishing to volunteer on the day are also welcome.
