MOUNT GAMBIER CATTLE

Numbers rose his week at Mount Gambier as agents yarded 1,441 head of liveweight and open auction cattle.

These sold to a larger field of trade and processor buyers along with feeder and restocker interest.

Quality was mixed over the pens with more secondary types on offer as the market ranged from firm to a little better in places.

Yearling steers to the trade made from 240c to 330c with feeder support from 264c to also 330c as restockers operated to 244c/kg.

Yearling heifers sold from 230c to 336c to the trade with feeders active from 246c to 300c and restockers to 302c/kg.

Grown steers and bullocks returned vendors from 266c to 341c to be from firm to 4c better in price with feeder activity from 276c to 328c/kg.

Grown heifers attracted the trade from 235c to 330c with the feeders operating from 255c to 290c/kg.

Manufacturing cattle bucked market trends to rise up to 25c as they sold from 240c to 304c/kg.

Heavy cows remained firm in price as they made from 238c to 282c with lighter pens making from 176c to 248c as bulls ranged from 175c to 240c/kg.

MOUNT GAMBIER LAMB AND SHEEP

NARACOORTE SHEEP AND LAMB:

Both lamb and sheep numbers lifted with 9915 lambs and 2150 sheep yarded at Naracoorte this week.

Quality was mostly good with several good runs of heavy lambs penned.

The regular buying group attended and operated in a market that started close to firm but eased in places on the plainer lambs as the sale progressed.

The medium and heavy trade weight lambs sold from $140 to $175 with the extra heavy weights selling from $212 to $235/head.

Merino lambs ranged from $116 to $152/head to average from 560c to 590c/kg cwt.

Restockers and feeders were active and paid from $106 to $130 and from $20 to $98/head for lighter lambs.

The sheep offering covered all weights and grades with several pens of heavy crossbred ewes yarded.

Sheep struggled to hold last weeks values easing from $5 to $10/head, Merino ewes sold to $92, crossbred ewes sold to $78/head.

Light lambs sold from $95 to $120/head and averaged 640c/kg cwt.

Light trade weight lambs sold from $115 to $144/head to average 650c/kg cwt.

Medium trade weight lambs sold from $140 to $159/head and averaged 625c/kg cwt.

Heavy trade weights sold from $159 to $175 to average 650c/kg cwt.

Export weights sold from $174 to $210/head and averaged 670c/kg cwt.

Extra heavy weights sold from $212 to $235/head and averaged 670c/kg cwt.

Light sheep sold to $30/head.

Medium weight sheep sold from $35 to $77/head, with Merino mutton averaging 280c and the crossbreds averaging 205c/kg cwt.

Heavy Merino’s sheep sold from $55 to $92/head to average 230c to 240c/kg cwt.

Crossbred ewes sold from $50 to $78/head and averaged from 175c to 225c/kg cwt.

NARACOORTE CATTLE

Cattle numbers nearly doubled with 851 yarded.

Quality was mostly good with pens of well presented cattle through the offering.

The regular buying group were in attendance and operated keenly in a mostly dearer market.

Number were made up of 645 young cattle, 150 cows, 33 bulls and 23 open auction young cattle.

A stronger trend over most cattle saw young cattle firm to 10c/kg dearer, yearlings 20c to 30c /kg dearer in places.

Grown steers sold 10c to 20c kg stronger, the grown heifers were 15c/kg dearer, Cows sold 10c to 20c/kg stronger and bulls improved to 20c/kg.

Vealers sold to the trade from 288c to 356c with feeders and restockers paying from 250c to 376c/kg.

Yearlings sold to the trade from 300c to 360c, feeders paid from 205 to 348c/kg.

Light and medium grown steers sold from 281c to 340c with feeders paying 332c to 338c/kg.

Heavier weights sold from 260c to 352c/kg.

Heavier grown heifers sold from 268c to 336c with feeders and restockers paying from 280c to 336c/kg.

Lighter plainer types sold from 155c to 206c/kg.

Medium cows sold from 72c to 216c, with heavy weights selling from 225c to 241c with the better covered types selling from 234c to 280c/kg.

Medium bulls sold from 185c to 205c, heavy weights sold from 224 to 238c, restockers paid to 248c/kg.
