Australian music icon Ian Moss will be bringing his Rivers Run Dry tour to Mount Gambier/ Berrin this weekend.

The solo acoustic tour is set to entertain fans new and old, with music from the new album, favourites from albums like Matchbook, and Moss’ take on Cold Chisel classics.

Speaking to SA Today, Moss – who grew up in Alice Springs – said he was excited to bring the show to regional areas like Mount Gambier/ Berrin.

“I am enjoying driving around and touring so many different venues,” he said.

“I make sure to include regional [dates] because that’s my roots, so I support city and regional.”

So far crowds are loving the new album, with the title track telling the story of Moss’ life long friend suffering a stroke.

“I didn’t start out to write around a theme, but it kind of developed from a very unfortunate incident that inspired the title track, which is Rivers Run Dry of course,” he said.

“It is kind of a metaphor in that there is a line in the song which says ‘as the red dirt cloud comes screaming in’ when we were kids there seemed to be a lot of drought in Alice Springs, we would get dust storms every second day.

“But it is also a slightly cynical way of saying maybe your river has run dry to a certain extent.”

Moss described the whole album as “Australiana, red, dry, outback, but poppy and eclectic”.

Though the tour is completely acoustic, Moss said it would still be high-energy with a big sound.

The fourth track, Bury Me, is a duet performed with former Millicent local turned country music star Kasey Chambers.

“Right from the outset the song was destined to be a duet, it had a country bluegrass flavour to it and when Kasey Chambers agreed to do that duo I was absolutely stoked,” he said.

Despite her local ties, it was not expected Chambers would make an appearance on stage, with her own tour in Tasmania the same night.

Ian Moss Rivers Run Dry Acoustic Tour will be stopping at the Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre on Saturday, April 13.
