A HIGH-flying Eagle has been recognised for her impressive Limestone Coast Women’s Football League season.

Penola’s Caroline McGrath was voted best and fairest for the LCWFL at the recent 2024 presentation night with 14 votes, putting the cherry on top of a standout year.

McGrath was a regular at the head of the Eagles best players and the captain led her team by example with tireless intensity in and around the contest.

In fact, McGrath was named as Penola’s best-on-ground in five of its seven minor round games, while she was also the top player in the winning qualifying final B which put the Eagles straight through to the consolation grand final.

Nipping at her heels was Kongorong young-gun Evie Sealey, who was one vote behind on 13.

Sealey was also rightfully at the pointy end of performers this season and she was consistently in the Hawks’ best each week.

In addition to that accolade, Sealey was named as the 2024 best Under 21 player in the league.

Also from Kongorong, captain and full-back Sarah Lucas was presented with the joint best defender award for 2024.

She shared the honours with Nangwarry’s Ebony Wurst, who fought valiantly for the Saints in a tough debut season.

Both players tallied 12 votes each.

Rounding out the individual awards was North Gambier’s Chloe Newton who received the leading goalkicker trophy.

The Tigers’ gun recruit snagged 30 majors for the home-and-away season and will play another vital part in their forward line when North contests the 2024 grand final in two weeks’ time.

This weekend the preliminary finals will be played at Casterton’s Island Park.

The day will open with the B preliminary final between Kongorong and South Gambier, before Mundulla and Kybybolite meet in a battle of the Tigers in the A series final.
