SESAME Street will be heading to Mount Gambier/Berrin in a one-stop event held at the Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre.

The world’s beloved Elmo will be joined by his best friends Abby, Cookie Monster, Grover, Bert and Ernie as they go on a magical adventure to find their place in a special circus experience.

The adventure begins with Elmo’s enchanting bedtime story about the circus which, as he falls asleep, he is magically transported to and greeted by his friends.

Audience members will then be greeted by a burst of high energy and entertainment as the characters sing and dance to the iconic Sesame Street theme song while embarking on an exciting adventure to the circus.

The Border Watch got a behind the scenes look at the show after speaking with Ringmaster Michael Keen.

Ringmaster Michael said children attending could expect all their favourite Sesame Street characters as well as world-class circus performers.

“Elmo and his friends will also join in on the show together at the end and we will share the stage with him, Abby, Cookie Monster, Grover, Bert and Ernie,” Ringmaster Michael siad.

“They are all a diverse mix of talents and personalities and always provide a great time.”

All characters will have their time on the stage performing and showcasing a range of different talents with Elmo trying to find his own way in the circus world.

“That is where we come in as we try and give him a bit of guidance,” Ringmaster Michael said.

“It is so much fun because I grew up watching these characters on television and now I get to work with Elmo everyday.”

Ringmaster Michael said working with Elmo and his friends was “surreal and fantastic”.

“Elmo is so innocent and enjoyable to work with,” he said.

“We all love the day-to-day and seeing the reactions of the audience in different towns and places we have been to.”

He said by bringing the show to regional areas, it allowed all Sesame Street fans to be included.

“There is no reason why everyone should not be able to enjoy these things,” he said.

“We understand travel can be a problem so why shouldn’t we bring the show to regional places.”

Elmo and his friends will be joined by world-class circus performers who Ringmaster Michael said “blows his mind” every time he watches them.

“I have been watching them for a few years,” he said.

“Parents often realise that not only do we have iconic Sesame Street characters but also amazing circus performers on stage, they are often shocked at how much they enjoy the show as well which is what we want to happen.”

The performance was great for all ages including mums, dads and grandparents.

Ringmaster Michael said working with Elmo and his friends was a fantastic opportunity which he had enjoyed.

“We hope everyone does come out and see this because we want to keep making tours like this possible and viable so when we have the crowd there we can do these things over and over again which is what we want to do,” he said.

“We are looking forward to exploring Mount Gambier and love seeing the different audiences, age groups and dynamics.”

Tickets for Elmo’s Circus Dream are available for purchase now with the show being held at the Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre on March 24.
