Scholarships awarded

HELPING HAND: Suad Awsee, Gemma Ralph and Tayla Rowe have been awarded scholarships.

Community Bank Mount Gambier and District have awarded a record four scholarships to local students for their 2024 scholarship program.

Grant High School student Gemma Ralph and Millicent High School student Tayla Rowe have been awarded this year’s School Leavers’ scholarship, and Suad Awsee and Brock Keding have been awarded the Open Scholarship.

The scholarships are awarded to a first-time tertiary student to supplement their study costs in their first year of higher education.

Gemma (who completed Year 12 at Grant High School in 2022) plans to use the local scholarship to undertake first-time tertiary study in a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting and Corporate Finance) at the University of Adelaide, and Tayla (who completed Year 12 at Millicent High School in 2023) will be studying a Bachelor of Physiotherapy at the University of South Australia.

In the Open Scholarship (for students aged 21 years or older), Suad will be utilising the scholarship to study a Bachelor of Law at the University of South Australia and Brock will be undertaking a Bachelor of Education at Flinders University.

The students plan to use the $6,000 funding to help cover the costs of expenses such as residential college accommodation and textbooks.

Branch Manager of Community Bank Mount Gambier and District Emma Horrigan said the four students were deserving recipients.

“All of the recipients have demonstrated a commitment to their studies,” Ms Horrigan said.

“We were so happy to be able to award the scholarships to four individuals in 2024. This is another way that our Community Bank company commits to building stronger communities.

“We wish Gemma, Tayla, Suad and Brock all the best of luck as they begin an exciting journey toward achieving their academic goals.
