Holiday fun at Port MacDonnell

The Port MacDonnell Community Complex reflects on a successful 2023/2024 summer school holiday program.

Over the six weeks it ran, they saw 525 locals and visitors participate in two craft sessions and Storytime which were facilitated each week.

Crafts varied from Christmas ornaments to name boards, bracelets, succulent gardens and school bag tags.

Prior to Christmas, Storytime was particularly exciting with a special visit from Mrs Claus.

Young children gave their present requests to Mrs Claus before reading a story and creating a Christmas themed craft.

Embracing the festive spirit the Port MacDonnell Community Complex introduced a community Christmas tree, where children and adults could make a decoration then place it on the shared tree.

A letterbox to Santa was also situated at the Complex providing an opportunity for children in Port MacDonnell and surrounding areas to write a letter addressed to Santa and receive a letter in return.

The Complex’s youth space was a popular hangout spot, with free access to gaming consoles and WIFI.

Large groups of people from places such as Adelaide, Melbourne and country Victoria explored the area, spending time at The Port MacDonnell Maritime Museum, located within the Complex.

The Port MacDonnell Community Complex have already begun their plans for the next school holiday program held in April 2024.

They will also host multiple Youth Week activities between March 15 and 24 2024, such as a movie screening and a acrylic pour workshop.
