Partnering up

COLLABORATION: Countrywide Hydrogen has announced a partnership with Alinta Energy's Spinifex Offshore Wind Farm.

In an effort to build a ‘Hydrogen Hyway’ Countrywide Hydrogen has announced a partnership with Alinta Energy’s Spinifex Offshore Wind Farm.

It is expected Spinifex would be a 1-gigawatt offshore wind farm built in the proposed Southern Ocean Region in south west Victoria.

Currently in the pre-planning phase, the windfarm could have the potential renewable electricity supply to support the Hydrogen Portland Project.

Countrywide managing director Geoff Drucker said they were delighted to be partnering with Alinta Energy.

“The proposed second stage of our Hydrogen Portland project will need access to significant volumes of reliable green electricity to supply to Asia, including Japan, with significant volumes of green hydrogen-based

energy through our project partner DGA Energy Solutions Australia Pty Ltd,” he said.

“While at the feasibility phase for both Stages 1 (domestic mobility) and 2 (export) it is critical that we have a line of sight to energy and water sources for hydrogen production as well as land.”

Spinifex was targeting for a final investment decision before 2030 with a three-to-four-year construction period to follow and Alinta Energy chief development officer Ken Woolley said the collaboration could be “great for the region”.

“A partnership to supply energy for the production of green hydrogen could be great for the region and we look forward to exploring it further,” he said.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Spinifex and Countrywide Hydrogen outlines the scope and principles of the collaboration, which are to jointly investigate provision of electricity to the Hydrogen Portland Project and project development and execution synergies.

The executed MOU is a non-binding strategic framework that provides for conversion into definitive arrangements as the parties’ projects progress.
