ALLENDALE East Area School student Angus Millard will be awarded the Young Citizen of the Year Award today at the Australia Day celebrations.
Mr Millard was awarded the 2023 South Australian Rural Youth Ambassador and remains a committed student who is willing to participate in a range of school events.
He also constantly works in collaboration with others to advocate for better educational support programs and networks as well as mental health support for youth in rural and remote locations within the state.
Mr Millard said when he was first told about the award he thought it was “pretty wicked” considering he had never heard of it before.
“It is pretty nice to have recognition for being a member of the community,” Mr Millard said.
“I mostly do school based stuff and like making a voice for us.”
He said as part of the Royal Youth Ambassador Program held last year, he got together with a number of other communities around the region and made changes for the schools, resource bearing and more.
Now about to start his final year of school, Mr Millard said he was hoping to encourage more collaboration between other places across the region and share more ideas which would benefit the school in the long run.
