OLIVE Cotton has illustrated a book, written by her Grandma, children’s author and counsellor Joan Koskela.

The Cat Surprise is based on a true story about a little girl, Billie and a cat named Gingie.

Billie desperately wanted her very own cat and hoped and imagined every day until one day, little Gingie came along.

“One day, Grandma was telling me and the other grandchildren the true story of Gingie the Cat and we loved it so much that we all thought that it would be a great story to share with others,” said Olive.

Olive, who loves being creative, especially drawing and painting, began drawing furiously.

Working closely with her Grandma, The Cat Surprise came to life over a five week project, and as a result, Olive will be launching the book as part of the Mount Gambier Library’s school holiday program of events.

Olive said when the book was first published, she could not wait to go to the Library and hand over a copy so that other children can borrow, read and enjoy.

The launch will consist of a book reading and Q&A session from the audience, followed by a beautiful craft activity.

Books will be available for sale for $30.00 and Olive is happy to sign copies.

“I hope to do some more illustrating if the opportunity arises. For now, I am selling my hand painted cards and keyrings at local businesses in Mount Gambier,” said Olive.

The launch will be held on Thursday, January 11 at 10.30am.

Bookings are available by contacting the Mount Gambier Library on 8721 2540 or book online at www.mountgambier.sa.gov.au/library under ‘Programs and Events’.
