IMPROVEMENTS to the public bus service could be implemented next year after the City of Mount Gambier requested Mount Gambier/Berrin be included in the upcoming regional transport review being conducted early next year.

Mayor Lynette Martin said improving the public bus service is a matter of “great interest” to Council and the local community.

She said Keolis Downer are aware of the shortcomings of the current bus service and are working towards small changes to the current routes.

Ms Martin and City of Mount Gambier chief executive officer Sarah Philpott were scheduled to meet with minister for infrastructure and transport Tom Koutsantonis this month, but the meeting has now been rescheduled for March next year.

Ms Martin said “there doesn’t seem to be any certainty that Mount Gambier is included” in the proposal and they are currently awaiting confirmation.
