Incorporation of the Mount Gambier and District Residents and Ratepayers Association has been approved and members are ready to tackle community issues.

The association applied for incorporation from the Consumer and Business Affairs in November and chairperson Di Ind said it had been a smooth process.

“We are pleased that our application was approved in such a short space of time and that no deficiencies, or alterations, were identified for modification in our governing document,” she said.

Along with incorporation, the association recently added ‘District’ to its name, which Ms Ind said reflected the “unique physical, economic and social relationships” the City of Mount Gambier had with the District Council of Grant.

“The name change was made following representations from the community to include our friends and neighbours from the District Council of Grant,” she said.

Ms Ind said the association had a scheduled meeting with Mount Gambier chief executive officer Sarah Philpott and mayor Lynette Martin, and also hoped to meet with representatives from Grant soon.

“We have many issues to raise with council [City of Mount Gambier], initially the most important issues are communication with the wider community, confidentiality and open and transparent meetings and decision

making,” she said.

“These are issues that have been repeatedly raised in our meetings.”
