NARACOORTE photographer Diane Vine has recently won a prize in an Art Gallery of South Australia touring exhibition competition.

Diane Vine is the president of the Naracoorte photography club Captured Images and entered her photo taken in January this year, in the Where’s Your Wonderland competition.

The Naracoorte Regional Art Gallery hosted the Naomi Hobson exhibition in February, which featured a series of black and white photographs that had been colour enhanced in fluro tones.

Taken in Coen in Far North Queensland, the exhibition was designed to tell the real-life story of young Aboriginal people living in remote Australia.

Photographers were asked to “be inspired” by Naomi Hobson’s Adolescent Wonderland and answer the question ‘Where’s your wonderland?’ through their submissions.

Ms Vine’s photograph, taken at Beachport near the lighthouse features sea mist coming to shore and the resident seagulls wheeling around in the air.

Ms Vine and her and her family are regular visitors of the area and the lookout is special to her.

“The sun was setting and I could see the sea mist rolling in,” she said.

“It was just one of those magic moments that you are sometimes lucky enough to experience.

“I think the thing that grabbed me is that normally it’s quite quiet and the birds have gone to roost at that time of the day, but the sea mist had really excited the seagulls.”

Ms Vine said she was surprised by the win and it was nice to have her photo recognised.

Ms Vine’s prize of Art Gallery of South Australia merchandise was presented in an arty tote bag.
