Knowing that a trip to see Santa Claus can be tricky for some families, the Mount Gambier Library will again be offering Sensitive Santa sessions this year.

Children’s and youth services library assistant Bek Coates said each family would have 15 minutes to spend with Santa.

“We are offering our inclusive ‘Sensitive Santa’ sessions where you can book in for a 15-minute one-on-one Santa visit, in a dedicated festive room minus the noise, flashing lights and lots of people,” she said.

The session will be held on Thursday, December 14, from 3pm and when booking parents and caregivers will complete a survey to help with their child’s experience.

Santa will already know the child’s name, be aware of any challenges, and if the situation suits, a photo will be taken and given in both print and digital form to cherish.

Each child will walk away with a small gift from Santa and happy memories.

Ms Coates said being involved in Sensitive Santa was rewarding.

“The library was inundated with positive messages of thanks from parents who under usual circumstances, a visit to Santa is not possible,” she said.

The initiative was piloted last year and due to the overwhelming success the library has increased the number of sessions available for, with time slots available until 6pm.

Ms Coates said small families could book together so siblings did not miss out.

With limited spaces available, bookings are essential. Contact Mount Gambier Library on 8721 2540.
